Our FUTURES program enables promising students to succeed in HIGH SCHOOL
We enable our most promising primary school students to transition successfully to high school through our FUTURES program. Once students pass Kenya’s national exam at the end of Grade 8, FUTURES sponsors their enrollment in secondary schools—primarily boarding schools across Kenya—covering tuition, room, and board at an average cost of about 1,000 USD per student per year. This year FUTURES is supporting 40 promising students.
Core elements of our FUTURES program include:
Scholarships: Multi‑year financial aid that covers school fees and living costs, targeted at students from Kibera who would otherwise be unable to continue past primary.
Ongoing relationship support: Staff maintain contact with students during secondary school, providing mentoring, problem‑solving around fees, and encouragement to persist to graduation.
Emerging outcomes: Recent updates highlight cohorts of sponsored students completing high school and national exams, positioning them for tertiary education and employment.
Sponsor A Student Today
Knowing that graduating 9th graders from the Kibera Slum need to continue their education, Crossing Thresholds is committed to providing financial and relationship support to our students through high school. Students who pass the Kenya National Examinations at the end of Grade 9 are eligible to apply to high schools (mostly boarding schools) throughout Kenya. The annual tuition, room and board for these schools is approximately $1,000.
High School scholarships are funded through our FUTURES Sponsorship Program.
